Background
ChainDrugStore.net (CDS) is the link between pharmacies and more than 300 manufacturer and managed care partners. The only online network used to communicate critical product information, CDS also tracks pharmacy data and monitors market shifts surrounding promotions, product launches and industry changes.

Challenge
Prior to establishing a relationship with Carpathia Hosting, CDS’s environment was built on physical servers with 6 core applications. As the company’s business needs grew, it needed to find a hosting provider capable of doing more with less while still increasing its hosting capacity.

Approach
Carpathia Hosting suggested that CDS move to a virtualized environment, and in 2008 the two companies engaged on the development of a private hosted cloud solution. This solution had several goals, including creating an adaptive computing environment to meet business needs of CDS, ensuring compliance industry and regulatory requirements and delivering a cost effective solution.

Solution
Carpathia Hosting designed and operates this private cloud solution in an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) model. By using the latest virtualization technology, CDS was able to reduce 50% of its physical servers and at the same time increase its hosting capacity to 48 virtual servers for its disparate applications - enabling them to do much more with less. CDS attributes all of their success in trimming costs and increasing server hosting capacity to Carpathia’s managed hosting services.
